ADAC posts 7.5% duty-free sales rise in 2011 first-half

RBR Staff Writer Published 03 August 2011

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) recently posted a 7.5% rise in duty-free sales in the first half of 2011 amounting to $79.8m compared with the corresponding period last year. ADAC authorities attributed the sales boost primarily to higher sales at Terminal 3's beauty and fragrance shops. Terminal 3 reported a 59% increase at its 19 luxury boutiques.

ADAC now expects its sales performance to keep rising over the second half of 2011 as Terminal 1 shops reopen by the end of August this year after a refurbishment, according to DFNI Online.

After the refurbishment, Terminal 1 will have added three fashion outlets, two jewellery stores and a sunglasses section to ADAC's duty-free shops. These luxury boutiques will be opened by brands such as Burberry, Ferragamo, Givenchy, Bulgari and Mont Blanc, the Gulf News reported.

Speaking on the sales increase, ADAC Chief Commercial Officer Huraiz Al Mur Bin Huraiz said that the boost was the result of a combination of things such as the increase of travellers through Abu Dhabi, and a better understanding of the type of shoppers these travellers are.
