Aer Rianta International opens first China retail stores

RBR Staff Writer Published 29 June 2012

Aer Rianta International (ARI), a fully-owned subsidiary of DAA, has announced opening of its first stores in China. The firm operates up to 650m² of retail space across 11 separate stores at Kunming’s Changshui International Airport.

All the retail stores trade under The Loop name, the same brand as the retailer's stores at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports in Ireland.

The shops will offer duty-paid perfume and cosmetics, fashion and accessories, jewelry, confectionery and souvenirs.

The firm, which entered China in the 1990s when it provided retail consultancy services to Beijing and Hong Kong international airports, will employ over 90 local people at the new Kunming stores.

ARI chief executive officer Jack MacGowan said the stores have been designed and fitted-out by the company's own specialist teams and will operate under its Irish travel retail brand, The Loop.

"This is a key strategic development for ARI and helps establish an important Irish trading presence in this dynamic region of South West China, MacGowan added.

"The revenues and profits generated over time by this new contract and by all ARI's retail activities in Ireland and overseas contribute significantly to DAA's investment in Irish airports and the maintenance of aviation-related jobs in Ireland."
