RBR Staff Writer Published 16 February 2011

Dubai Duty Free, the Dubai, UAE-based airport retailer, and Jumeirah, the Dubai-based luxury hotel company, have signed an agreement to operate a five star luxury hotel in Dubai.

The hotel will come up at the sports and leisure complex The Aviation Club near the airport to the north of Al Garhoud Bridge overlooking Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, the companies announced.

The property will have 293 guestrooms, two restaurants, two bars and two lounges, as well as a spa and health club besides and conference and banqueting facilities.

The hotel's proximity to the airport and the wide range of sporting and leisure activities in the vicinity is expected to make it popular with high-end business and leisure travellers, the companies said.

The hotel is currently under development and is expected to open during 2011.

Dubai Duty Free is reportedly the single largest airport retailer in the world which had double digit sales growth for 2010 with turnover reaching a record $1.27bn, representing a 14% increase over 2009 figures.
