Dubai Duty Free nine-month sales rise

RBR Staff Writer Published 06 October 2011

Travel retailer Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has reported 16.4% increase in sales to $1bn up to the end of September 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.

During the nine-month period, sales of Perfumes rose to $150m, gold sales rose 24% to $118m, while liquor recorded an increase of 17% in sales to $142m, reported dfnionline.com.

Cosmetics sales increased 22%, with sales of $63m and electronics sales rose 21% to $81m. Confectionery sales rose 9% to $78m, accounting for 8% of total revenue.

DDF executive vice-chairman Colm McLoughlin said the company's penetration level and average spend has been consistently high and heading into a busy sales period for the last quarter.

The retailer will celebrate its 28th anniversary on 20 December 2011 by offering consumers a 25% discount on a range of merchandise.

"We started this promotion when we celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2003 and offered shoppers a discount for that day. Sales soared to a record high on that day and proved to be so successful that we have continued to mark our anniversary day in this way ever since," McLoughlin said.
