Dubai Duty Free posts 16.6% rise in 2011 half-yearly sales

Dubai Duty Free recently reported a 16.6% year-on-year sales increase (amounting to $698) for the first-half of the year 2011.

Perfumes, liquor and gold were reported to be the top three categories. Perfume sales increased by more than 20% to touch $99m, while gold sales rose by over 24% to touch $79m. Sales of electronic goods soared by over 22% to $54m, while watch sales increased by more than 41% to $47m. Duty free sales at Terminal 2 rose by more than 31%, while Terminals 1 and 3 sales increased by over 15% and 16% respectively. Overall Arrivals sales rose by over 16%. A significant rise in the sale of luxury products was also posted.

The Middle East contributes 7.4% of the mix with Dubai Duty Free accounting for 5.4% of airport shop sales, and 3.2% of the wider duty free and travel retail global business.
