Dubai Duty Free sales increase 15.6% in 2011

Dubai Duty Free has reported a 15.69% increase in sales to AED5.311bn ($1.46bn) in 2011, compared to the previous year.

In 2011, Dubai Duty Free recorded over 22.4 million sales transactions with an average of over 61,000 sales transactions per day.

Sales of perfumes rose 22% year-on-year to AED803m ($220m). Perfumes now contribute 15% towards total sales at Dubai Duty Free sales.

Liquor and gold sales grew AED744m ($204m) and AED591m ($162m) respectively, representing an increase of 18% and 20% year-on-year.

Electronics sales jumped by 17% to AED406m ($111m), confectionery sales rose by 11% to AED395m ($108m), and sales of watches increased by 21% to AED356m ($98m).

Cosmetics sales rose by 22% to AED326m ($89m), while delicatessen and household categories have both seen an 11% increase in 2011.
