Gebr Heinemann set to unveil stores at Vienna, Berlin airports

RBR Staff Writer Published 07 March 2012

Germany-based travel retailer Gebr Heinemann is opening new duty free stores at Vienna International (VI) airport’s Skylink terminal and in Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI) airport in the first week of June 2012.

Gebr Heinemann co-owner Gunnar Heinemann told DFNIonline that the Skylink terminal will serve Star Alliance airlines and as such the customer base will comprise long-haul travelers.

"At Vienna they had problems in the process of building the [new Skylink] terminal -- the original plan was to open it in 2008, but now it will open this year and we are in fact happy because I believe that the old terminal was a bit 'overshopped' in my view, which is rare as most often the claim is that a terminal is underdeveloped," Heinemann said.

At BBI airport, Gebr Heinemann will run a 18,298ft² walk-through duty free and duty paid shop in the terminal's level one for Schengen and non-Schengen passengers.

The travel retailer will also run three other duty free stores, a 2,152ft² crew shop and four mono-brand stores in the marketplace level, in addition to a leathergoods shop at the same location in BBI.

The new retail outlets will operate under the Heinemann Duty Free banner.
