HNDF to open duty free store at Haikou Meilan Airport

RBR Staff Writer Published 20 December 2011

Hainan Provincial Duty Free (HNDF) plans to open a new duty-free store at Haikou Meilan International Airport on Hainan Island in China.

The new duty free location, which spans 23680ft², is scheduled to open on 21 December 2011, according to moodiereport.com.

HNDF chairman Wei Du said the international retailer DFS is the exclusive supplier of duty free products, excluding liquor and tobacco, to the venture.

The company, which has the right to open duty free shops anywhere on the resort island, plans to further develop duty free on Hainan, including downtown stores.

The Vice Governor of Hainan Tan Li previewed the new stores, which are expected to play a crucial role in developing and funding Hainan's burgeoning tourism infrastructure.

"If the pilot store proves successful, the company will then submit an application to the State Council to set up multiple duty free stores in Hainan," said Tan Li.
