InterGlobe to foray into retail business

RBR Staff Writer Published 20 November 2012

Diversified Indian group InterGlobe plans to further expand its portfolio by entering a wide array of new sectors that includes retail.

InterGlobe is mulling over the opening of a chain of duty free shops in collaboration with Swiss retailer Dufry, reported Live Mint.

The retail venture will further the partnership between the two companies in duty-free concessions at Indian airports.

InterGlobe chairman Rahul Bhatia remarked that, "We have had a long-standing relationship with Dufry as we had bid for duty-free concessions at some airports in India in partnership with them."

"We had engaged Boston Consulting Group some years back to put together a strategic road map for InterGlobe and some of the diversification is based on the findings of that effort," Bhatia added.

The company that owns and operates the IndiGo airliner is currently invested in or is looking at expansion in the hospitality, luxury products, information technology and travel sectors.
