Lotte Group opens duty-free shop at Jakarta airport
South Korea-based Lotte Group has opened its first duty-free shop outside Korea at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta on 31 January 2012.
The new 9472.3ft² shop, which has created 100 jobs, is reportedly the biggest in Southeast Asia. The group already has duty-free shops in 10 locations in Korea.
The store features cosmetics, perfumes, tobacco products and alcohol, in addition to various designer brands such as Coach, Dunhill, Mont Blanc, Chanel and Estee Lauder.
Soekarno-Hatta's Lotte Duty Free marketing director Novita Wibowo said the group's rapid business expansion in Indonesia was the reason why the retailer chose the country for its first global duty-free shop.
Lotte Group entered the Indonesian market in 2008 after acquiring 19 stores from Dutch wholesaler Makro and developed them into Lotte Mart hypermarkets.
Currently, there are 24 Lotte Mart stores and the group plans to open up to 100 more by 2018.
