Retail business at Changi Airport touches $1.19bn in 2011
Retail stores at Changi Airport raked in S$1.5bn ($1.19bn) in 2011, a 17% increase over the year before.
Changi Airport Group said the number of shops at Terminal 1 grew 25% and at Terminal 3 around 60%, and increased promotions helped to drive consumer spending.
Todayonline.com quoted Changai Airport Group senior vice-president Ivy Wong as saying that the group hopes the continuous expected growth in its traffic will continue to grow its retail business.
The group plans to focus on the mainland Chinese market, where spending surged 40% last year, compared to 2010. Other top spenders in 2011 included those from Australia, Indonesia, Singapore and the European Union.
Singapore-based Changi Airport has over 753480ft² of commercial space across its four terminals.
