Two stations of New Delhi‘s Airport Express metro line to have duty free shops

Published 07 February 2011

The New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations of the Airport Express metro line of India's capital New Delhi will have duty free shops within a few months, the Hindustan Times reported.

The two stations will have the appearance of mini international airports with facilities that adorn an airport. While duty-free will be available at only two stations, retail space will be available at six stations.

The Airport Express line is poised to be operational soon, the report said.

Reliance Infrastructure has booked 20% space at the stations for retail activities.

Reliance Infrastructure CEO and director Lalit Jalan told the Hindustan Times that the duty-free shops are awaiting clearances and will be opened in the next three to four months. The company does not plan a tender, but will negotiate with the parties concerned, Jalan added.

Reliance Infrastructure, a part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, is an Indian infrastructure company. The company is developing projects in high growth areas in the infrastructure sector including metro rails, airports and specialty real estate.
