WDFG wins duty-free concession at Düsseldorf airport

RBR Staff Writer Published 18 June 2012

World Duty Free Group (WDFG) has won the duty-free concession at Düsseldorf International airport. The company will operate six existing duty-free shops from January 2013.

Prior to WDFG, travel retailer Gebr Heinemann has operated at the location for 20 years. The win also marks the firm's debut in the German travel-retail market, reported DFNIonline.

Düsseldorf airport managing director for non-aviation activities Thomas Schnalke said that the company wants to give this area new stimulus.

"As an airport, we aim at exerting more influence on the conception of the shop design as well as the according market research and individual adjustment of the assortment to the Düsseldorf market place in future. The concept with our new duty-free partner takes all of these items into account," Schnalke added.

Düsseldorf International airport noted that its lease agreement with Gebr Heinemann expires at the end of 2012. WDFG currently has over 260 stores at 67 locations, in 16 countries across four continents worldwide.
