World Duty Free Group opens largest store in Spain

RBR Staff Writer Published 26 July 2013

Travel retailer World Duty Free Group (WDFG) has unveiled its largest store - Mallorca Duty Free - at Palma de Mallorca airport in Spain.

With 2,659m² of retail space, the newly remodeled store is located in the departures area and has created 110 new jobs bringing the total staff number to 330.

WDFG has earmarked total investment of €11.5m ($15.2m) for the Palma de Mallorca project during 2013 to 2020, of which €5.6m was spent in this first phase of development, reported dfnionline.

"World Duty Free Group tailors each retail space it owns, to ensure that it reflects the culture of the city or region in which it's located. This gives each store a 'sense of place' and a unique identity," said WDFG.

WDFG chairman Rafael Arias-Salgado told the website that the refurbishment of the Palma de Mallorca store is a key part of the company's strategy for growth in Spain.

"We have introduced our most innovative commercial concepts into the store, including the walk through format, which we pioneered," Salgado added.

"The increase of retail space to 2,690sq m, has had a positive impact with the creation of 110 additional job opportunities, which is excellent news in these challenging times."
